A big thank you to each and every elector in Lexden who voted Lib Dem in the election of 6 May! The numbers of votes cast in Lexden Ward for the Borough Council candidates were: Lib Dem (me) 1,084; Conservative 1,729; Green 132; Labour 168. It has been an exhausting but exciting campaign, and the support and welcome the Focus Team and I have received on the doorsteps have been wonderful. We had no fewer than 33 Lib Dem stakeboards across the ward (some of which were thrown down by disgruntled opponents), and many more window posters. Overall the Lib Dems took three Borough Council seats from the Conservatives, increasing the number of Lib Dem councillors to 26 and making the Lib Dems the largest group on the Council. Equally if not more importantly, Bob Russell was returned to Parliament with an increased number of votes and an increased majority, so he will continue to be “the voice of Colchester” and as one of Nick Clegg’s Parliamentary team will help to deliver real change that the country needs.
