172 Lexden Road update

by Jo Hayes on 25 April, 2010

I have been asked by a number of residents for an update on 172 Lexden Road, the house in Lexden’s Conservation Area that is under threat of demolition. As previously reported in Focus, the Secretary of State’s Listing Review Officer sent the file back to English Heritage for a reassessment in the light of evidence that the building is 17th century rather than 18th as had previously been assumed. Last month English Heritage sent me a copy of their initial report on the building for my comments. It mentioned that English Heritage had not inspected the interior because of a declaration that the building was unsafe. I asked English Heritage by way of Freedom of Information request for a copy of the declaration and of a survey report that was also mentioned, but I have not had a substantive reply to that request yet. I sent my comments on the initial report on 8th April and received an acknowledgment. No more to report so far.
