The Lib Dem Focus Team’s litter-picking session last month was definitely a success. Wrapped up warm against the freezing weather we began by clearing the litter from New Kiln Wood on the east side of Sussex Road, where we found the usual plastic bags, fast food containers, drinks bottles and cans, plus part of a scooter. To judge from the dirt and rust, many items had been there for upwards of a year. The two dogs with us had a marvellous time sniffing around in the undergrowth. We then moved on to Hilly Fields itself and cleared along the top path that runs east-west, finding more of the same plus, curiously, a mud-soaked sleeping bag. We took the lot to the Shrub End recycling site. Altogether very satisfying. Walking with my dog through the cleared areas today, I noticed they still look much better.
